Program Manager, Summer Miracles

Position Type: Full-time, Exempt
Work Location: Culver City, CA or Remote (2023). If in Los Angeles, the position is hybrid: in general, half time in the office, half time remote or at meetings, trainings, networking, weekend outreach, and connection events.

Through our innovative Family Visit Model, we run proven, successful programs that introduce kids to the community in a safe, fun, and child-friendly environment that lead to forever families and lasting connections.

The Summer Miracles Program brings children growing up in orphanages and foster care to the United States for a five-week stay during the summer with a host family. The program is designed to identify families who are interested in hosting, championing, and adopting older children in need of a forever family. In addition to operating the program during the summer, children travel at other times of the year as well, including the Winter holiday period.

The Kidsave Summer Miracles Program Manager will be responsible for all day‐to‐day aspects of the program and will work closely with the Communications and Marketing team to champion our kids. This position involves travel to Colombia as well as to existing Summer Miracles communities (Los Angeles, Tri-State, Chicago, DC Metro) and to new communities in development (e.g., NorCal, Florida). There are regular evening orientations and training events, as well as weekend/holiday recruitment and advocacy events. In the summer, when the kids are visiting, there are advocacy events every weekend. This role requires enthusiasm, vigor, and hands-on participation at events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, monitor, and support existing Summer Miracles Community Coordinators in their local organizing, host family recruitment, and fundraising efforts; Build new communities across the U.S.; this involves travel across the U.S. as needed.
  • Lead recruitment efforts to increase the number of host families, adoptive families, and volunteers across the U.S. who participate in the program.
  • Orient, train, and supervise Summer Miracles staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Serve as the lead communicator with prospective families (host, visiting, and adoptive).
  • Facilitate program orientations, training, and support sessions.
  • Manage host family, visiting family, and volunteer applications, as well as track hosting payments.
  • Manage in-person and Zoom meetings between children and families prior to and during the children’s visit to the U.S.
  • Serve as liaison with our partner organization, LA Casa de la Madre y El Nino, on child referrals and program logistics.
  • Review assessments of children to determine appropriateness for the program and ensure that all referrals are complete.
  • Work collaboratively with agency partners to manage family psychosocial studies and match children and families for hosting.
  • Ensure all logistics of Summer Miracles travel for participants and chaperones are completed in a timely and organized fashion.
  • Ensure that weekly family reports are reviewed and responded to in a timely manner. Provide support to Kidsave host families as needed.
  • Ensure community and child-specific advocacy events are scheduled and implemented in the best interest of the child(ren).
  • Oversee video content, print, website, and social media content and updates regarding children participating in Summer Miracles program events and activities in collaboration with Communications and Marketing.
  • Collect and monitor data to enable evaluation of the program and marketing of results.
  • Work with the SVP/Director to develop partnerships with placement agencies, expand the program to new countries, and make improvements to the program and protocols to facilitate expansion, replication, and sustainability.
  • Ensure fundraising activities are being held in communities to fund programs (e.g., gala, concerts, luncheons, golf tournaments, raffles, local community fundraisers).
  • Lead advocacy efforts to meet the goals of the program.
  • Ensure that program protocols are adhered to.

Education/ Work Experience/Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ work experience, at least three years of relatable non-profit experience with children and families in the child welfare system
  • Written and spoken Spanish, professional fluency required
  • Experience managing people, events, and volunteers
  • Experience with Black, Latinx, and LGBTQIA communities a plus.
  • Minimum BA or BS degree; Psychology, Communications or Marketing desirable. MSW, MSSW or MSSA degree a plus

Development Coordinator

At Kidsave, we work to change the lives of older youth in foster care. We seek a Champion for Change that believes in our mission to transform the child welfare systems, so children growing up in orphanages and foster care grow up in families and are connected to caring adults.

The Development Coordinator works closely with the Development Manager and Development Director and interfaces with all Kidsave teams in cultivating volunteers and managing their volunteer experience with Kidsave. The Development Coordinator is part of a team responsible for ensuring that Kidsave has the resources to maintain our innovative programs and expand our model domestically and internationally. The position involves occasional weekend or evening events. You will learn a lot quickly, and if Kidsave is the right place for you, there are opportunities to advance within our growing company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Development Planning and Administration

  • Support department activities, including supporter relations, prospect research, events, content drafting, and awareness-building. Analyze supporter data to aid in planning future fundraising strategies.
  • Assist in donor research, cultivation, and stewardship, including gift accounting, acknowledgment, and pledge collection. Manage and respond to supporter inquiries, including general inquiries and questions. Maintain cultivation schedule and donor database.
  • Maintain Development best practices, systems, procedures, and policies, including processing donations and preparing mailings. Serve as liaison/representative to donors and vendors. Become proficient at Salesforce and other software and apps related to Development.
  • Work with Marketing and Communication as needed to assist in the coordination of internal and external cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of materials (e.g., letters, emails, invitations, supporter newsletters/updates, info sheets, thank-you notes)

VOLUNTEER COORDINATION

  • Manage general volunteer database and volunteer engagement and experience tracking. Work closely with program and development staff.

CAMPAIGN AND EVENT MANAGEMENT

  • Assist in research, planning, and logistics (e.g., timetable, budgets, check-in, invitations, sponsor solicitations, auctions, organization, committee meetings, and coordination) for all Kidsave development events. Responsible for organizing and managing the setup, teardown, and delivery of materials for fundraising events.
  • Lead silent and live auction item acquisition and fulfillment for major fundraisers (e.g., galas, golf events)
  • Support Trustees, Board Associates, and community volunteers in creating, managing, and executing small fundraisers. Provide logistical support as needed.
  • Help plan, manage, execute, and track the success of peer-to-peer efforts.
  • Support monthly giving program and year-end campaign.
  • Support Miracles community fundraisers and individual (e.g., My Kidsave, Facebook) fundraiser campaigns.

Kidsave is seeking highly motivated, dependable, and conscientious self-starters who are interested in pursuing a career in communications and marketing, particularly in the non-profit world. This intern will work directly with the Communications and Development team on advocacy and media projects.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Program Managers to prepare written program updates and write blogposts for Weekend Miracles, Summer Miracles, Kidsave Russia and Kidsave Colombia, per Kidsave CEO and VP of Program
  • Conduct interviews of Kidsave kids & families to produce success stories, using photos and/or short videos
  • Arrange for and prepare Kidsave kids from Kidsave Programs to speak at advocacy and fundraising events
  • Maintain social media pages and corresponding blogposts for Kidsave official pages and website
  • Assist Weekend Miracles and Summer Miracles Program Managers in planning, writing, and submitting content for e-blasts and e-newsletters.
  • Collect copy, images and other properties to submit to the Project Coordinator for kids’ advocacy flyers and other program event flyers
    Skills:

This is a great opportunity for an individual interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising and event planning. The ideal candidate will have a desire to pursue a career in events having strong interpersonal, organizational, logistics and administrative skills as well as some experience assisting with or guiding a fundraising event from start to finish.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

To support the goals of the organization, Kidsave is currently seeking interns to support its Los Angeles, California and Houston, Texas Weekend Miracles Programs. The Weekend Miracles Program works to match older foster youth with host families who spend at least two days a month with the child. By mentoring and advocating for an older child in foster care, the host family has a direct role in helping him or her to find an adoptive family.

Responsibilities for the Weekend Miracles intern are as follows:

  • Attend advocacy events and assist with their coordination (Identify event locations, plan activities, prepare materials, create event flyers, advertise to communities, invite media, archive post-event photography, etc.). The Weekend Miracles Program hosts monthly weekend events.
  • Create, maintain, and update program materials, advocacy flyers, spreadsheets, website postings, and files for children and families.
  • Assist with initial hosting inquiries and follow-up with prospective host families.
  • Assist prospective host families throughout the application and training process.
  • Manage and file host family reports. Drive families to complete reports.
